We receive many questions about our flood protection systems and cofferdams and how they work. We’ve answered some of the most frequently asked questions here.
Here are answers to general questions about what we do and who we are.
We’ve provided water control and diversion services for more than four decades, serving areas across the U.S. and worldwide. Our products have been used in more than 6,000 projects globally.
Our systems are available in heights of up to 12 feet. You can combine individual units to accommodate uneven terrain and varying subsurface elevations. Our most popular system, the FloodDefender® system, ranges from three to six feet in height.
The Portadam system has a reputation as one of the most environmentally friendly methods for water containment, whether used as a flood protection system, temporary cofferdam or water storage solution.
Our system minimally impacts the environment, as all component parts are easily and completely removed at the end of a project. There are no earthen materials or sand used to create the structure, reducing the risk of cross-contamination. Additionally, noise and vibration concerns aren’t present with our system.
In the case of cofferdams, our system doesn’t break past the subsurface, so there aren’t long-term concerns or permanent faults left in the riverbed.
Our flood protection systems and temporary cofferdams perform well in flowing waters.

There are many applications for a temporary cofferdam, including:
We offer fully customizable, temporary cofferdams made from steel and impervious, reinforced fabric.
Our cofferdams are used in various construction projects, including bridge and dam construction and repairs, boat ramp installation and pipeline installation. The purpose of the cofferdam is to hold water back from the construction site, increasing safety and keeping the site dry.
Our temporary cofferdams consist of individual sections you can install independently. You can also move the cofferdam as needed throughout your project. We provide initial and refresher deployment training to help you become familiar with the installation process.
